CONGRESSMAN BURTON APPLAUDS THE PRESIDENT’S DECISION TO LIFT EXECUTIVE BAN ON OFFSHORE DRILLING

(Washington, D.C.) – Congressman Dan Burton [R-IN-05] issued the following statement today commending President Bush’s decision to lift an executive ban on offshore oil drilling. The President’s decision will not result in increased drilling off America's coastline unless Congress lifts its own legislative ban on offshore drilling. Burton said:

“President Bush’s decision to lift the executive ban on offshore drilling is the right decision for America. Our country is experiencing not only a damaging, but also dangerous energy crisis the likes of which we haven’t seen for decades. It is very important that we use any and all domestic means available to recover. The President’s lifting of the ban is one of the first steps in that direction. I only hope that Congress will now follow the President’s lead and lift its own ban on offshore drilling immediately.  I will personally do everything I can to convince my colleagues that this is the right thing to do.”
