MORAN VISITS KANSAS ENERGY FACILITIES
Gathers Research as Part of Congressional Energy Task Force

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Jerry Moran today announced he will visit several energy production facilities across the state in the coming days to learn more about the production and escalating price of fuel and energy. Earlier this week Congressional leaders announced that Moran is one of 10 Members of Congress appointed to the Gas Price Task Force, formed to investigate fuel prices, supply constraints and regulatory issues.

“Every American is feeling the strain of rising energy costs, but Kansans are in a position to make a difference,” Moran said. “With wind, ethanol, oil and fertilizer production all located in our state, the answer to high energy costs is right in our backyard. I’ll learn more about our efforts in Kansas in order to better educate my colleagues in Washington, D.C.

On Friday, September 23, Moran will visit an oil refinery in central Kansas. On Monday, September 26, Moran will meet with officials involved with wind and electric power in southwest Kansas. In August, Moran spent time at a Kansas ethanol production facility.

Also in response to high fuel prices, Moran this week sponsored H.R. 3836, the Fuel Supply Improvement Act. This legislation works to expand America’s refining capacity by decreasing regulations and expediting the permit process for new refineries.

“The U.S. now imports nearly 60 percent of its oil, and no domestic refineries have been built since 1976,” Moran said. “This legislation is about reducing barriers to allow new refineries to be built and help America become more self-sufficient in our energy needs.”
