WASHINGTON, D.C.  - U.S. Representative Ron Lewis announced today that the Save Our Kids Coalition of Bowling Green will receive a $100,000 federal grant from Drug-Free Communities, a program administered by the Office of National Drug Control Policy in Washington, D.C.

“I congratulate the Save Our Kids Coalition for receiving this award,” said Lewis. “The Drug-Free Communities Program recognizes the great job Save Our Kids is doing to promote drug prevention in Warren County. These funds will allow this important organization to expand their efforts to prevent and reduce substance abuse."

The Save Our Kids Coalition is committed to protecting youth in Warren County from the dangers of illegal drugs by increasing public awareness about risk factors and health hazards. The organization is working to mobilize the community by strengthening coordination efforts with local agencies, cultural groups, and volunteers. Save Our Kids was one of only 107 organizations across the country to receive Drug-Free Community grant assistance.

Rep. Lewis is a strong advocate for drug prevention efforts, working in Congress to ensure that federal, state and local agencies have the resources necessary to fight and win the war on drugs. A member of the House Methamphetamine Caucus, Lewis has secured over $2 million for eradication efforts over the past several years.

Lewis is also the lead sponsor of H.R. 713, the Agricultural Businesses Security Act of 2005, legislation that would encourage agricultural retailers to increase security measures on chemicals such as anhydrous ammonia, a main ingredient used in methamphetamine production. Lewis is also a cosponsor of the CLEANUP Meth bill, legislation to provide additional federal grants for education and eradication efforts and was an original cosponsor of the Combat Meth Act, a measure recently signed into law that regulates access to precursor drugs through quantity restrictions and rigid reporting requirements.
