WASHINGTON, D.C –February 7, 2007 – U.S. Rep. Ron Lewis (KY-02) announced today that the Lincoln Trail Area Development District (LTADD) has been awarded $565,897. The grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment at, will be used to support community adjustment projects in response to base realignment at Fort Knox

“I congratulate the LTADD, particularly the One Knox Policy Council, for their success in earning this award,” said Lewis. “The overwhelming support demonstrated by local citizens, non-profit organizations and base officials continue to cement Fort Knox’s position as a premiere military installation surrounded by communities that are wonderful places to live, work, and raise families.”

As a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission recommendations, Fort Knox is transforming into a multi-functional installation that will include an active duty infantry brigade combat team and staff support commands. Many of the communities that surround Fort Knox are preparing for the arrival of thousands of new military and civilian employees and their families.

The One Knox Policy Council, an organization of local civic and government leaders within the Lincoln Trail Area Development District, was created to coordinate infrastructure needs necessary to accommodate anticipated population growth. Considerations include the construction of new homes, schools, businesses, and road improvements.

Grant funds will be applied to support ongoing public information, community outreach and policy support functions.

"The One Knox Policy Council is doing a remarkable job to alleviate many of the concerns associated with the BRAC-related transitions. Their efforts illustrate strategic planning at its finest, enhancing quality of life for current residents and incoming military families.”
