WASHINGTON, D.C - U.S. Rep. Ron Lewis issued the following statement Monday in response to the testimony of General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker concerning military and political progress in Iraq:
“General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker have presented a credible and comprehensive assessment of the military and political realities on the ground in Iraq. While the surge has helped to stabilize the security situation, much remains to be done to improve political progress in the region.
“Kentucky’s Second Congressional District has an acute understanding of the sacrifices placed on soldiers and their families during times of war. It is my hope that today’s testimony will provide an opportunity for Congress to put aside partisan politics and recommit to providing our troops with the resources they need to complete their mission and return home without jeopardizing the progress they have fought so courageously to achieve.”
