Washington, DC –January 11, 2007 – U.S. Rep. Jim McCrery (R-LA), Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, announced today that U.S. Rep. Ron Lewis (KY-02) will continue his service on the Trade and Social Security Subcommittees in the recently convened 110th Congress.

The Ways and Means Committee maintains jurisdiction over Social Security and other entitlement related legislation, and plays a key role in charting the nation’s economic vitality through its control of personal and corporate tax policy. Lewis has become a key Member of the powerful committee, gaining considerable seniority since his appointment in 2000.

“I look forward to continuing my work on these subcommittees,” said Lewis. “Through this position I will continue to fight to preserve Social Security, eliminate trade barriers, and open new markets for U.S. goods and agricultural commodities.”

The Ways and Means Committee has produced many far-ranging legislative accomplishments in recent years including welfare reform, tax reduction, the promotion of renewable energy, the tobacco buyout, and the new Medicare prescription drug benefit.
