WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Ron Lewis announced today that Community Solutions for Substance Abuse of Owensboro will receive a $100,000 federal grant from Drug-Free Communities, a program administered by the Office of National Drug Control Policy in Washington, D.C.

“I congratulate Community Solutions for receiving this award,” said Lewis. “The Drug-Free Communities Program recognizes the great job Community Solutions is doing to promote drug prevention in Daviess County. These funds will allow this important organization to expand their efforts to prevent and reduce substance abuse."

Community Solutions for Substance Abuse is committed to protecting youth in Daviess County from the dangers of illegal drugs by increasing public awareness about risk factors and health hazards. The organization is working to mobilize the community by strengthening coordination efforts with local agencies, cultural groups, and volunteers. Community Solutions was one of only 90 organizations across the country to receive Drug-Free Community grant assistance.

Rep. Lewis is a strong advocate for drug prevention efforts, working in Congress to ensure that federal, state and local agencies have the resources necessary to fight and win the war on drugs. A member of the House Methamphetamine Caucus, Lewis has secured over $2 million for eradication efforts over the past several years.

Lewis is also a cosponsor of the CLEANUP Meth bill, legislation to provide additional federal grants for education and eradication efforts and was an original cosponsor of the Combat Meth Act, a measure signed into law last year to regulate access to precursor drugs through quantity restrictions and rigid reporting requirements.
