WASHINGTON, DC –December 12, 2007 – Edmonson County Fire Chiefs Associationhas been selected to receive a $71,250 grant through a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) program, U.S. Representative Ron Lewis announced today.
“The Brownsville community depends on the Fire Department to protect lives and property when there is an emergency.” said Lewis. “But there are large expenses just to provide the basics necessary to do the job.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program provides funding for qualified communities nationwide to be used for fire operations and the implementation of firefighter safety programs. This includes training, wellness and fitness, firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment, and modifications to fire stations and facilities
Lewis has been a longtime advocate in Congress for the needs of firefighters in the Kentucky’s Second Congressional District.
“Assistance to Firefighters grants can be a big help to smaller fire and rescue departments in need of a little extra assistance,” said Lewis.
