WASHINGTON, D.C –August 2, 2007 – The United States House of Representatives approved a measure directing USDA assistance for the Green County Agriculture Education, Marketing and Exposition Center project, U.S. Representative Ron Lewis announced Friday. The designation was included as part of the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2008 (H.R. 3161).
“This designation will help the Green County Cattleman’s Association and Farm Bureau advance their efforts to construct a facility to attract agricultural events and showcase local products,” said Lewis. “I encourage the Green County agriculture community to aggressively pursue this opportunity for assistance.”
Conditions of the bill direct the USDA to provide preferential treatment for the Green County Exposition Center project once officials have submitted requisite applications for USDA Rural Development Grant assistance. There are no direct funds tied to the House designation without official application. The project must also match the qualifications of the USDA program.
“The construction of this project will help educate the public and promote agricultural events and products in central Kentucky,” said Green County Cattlemen's Association Vice President Jeff Davis. “The completion of this center will help enhance the quality of life through activities held there for individuals as well as the community.”
Thursday’s action by the House is first step in the appropriations process. The Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration Appropriations Act will be considered in the U.S. Senate and by a joint Conference Committee before being sent to the President to be signed into law later this year.
