WASHINGTON, D.C –July 27, 2007 – U.S. Rep. Ron Lewis issued the following statement today concerning his opposition to tax increases included in the Farm Bill Extension Act (H.R. 3419), passed Friday in the U.S. House of Representatives:
“I am disappointed that the Democrat leadership in the House chose to ignore the good bipartisan work of the Agriculture Committee by adding a last minute tax increase that could cost thousands of jobs in Kentucky and throughout the United States.
“Fortunately, this bill still needs approval by the Senate and an agreement in conference. I look forward to working with my colleagues to take politics and tax increases out of this legislation and move a clean, comprehensive, and modernized Farm Bill forward. Kentucky’s farm families deserve nothing less.”
