WASHINGTON, DC –June 25, 2007 – Green River Ministries of Campbellsville has been selected to receive a $107,090 grant through a U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program, U.S. Representative Ron Lewis announced Monday. The grant, combined with a $245,000 pre-approved loan, will be used to construct a new community outreach center.
“Americans who make their homes in rural communities depend upon a strong network of friends, neighbors, and local ministries when faced with a personal hardship,” said Lewis. “These grants support the mission of local charitable and faith-based organizations, such as Green River Ministries, that are often the most direct resource for personal assistance.”
The Community Facility Loan and Grant Assistance Program provides grants to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas and towns of up to 20,000 in population. Grant funds can be used to construct, enlarge, or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and community and public services.
Green River Ministries intends to construct a new 8,000 square foot building to house local social agencies and services including a food pantry, crisis relief, job corps, Big Brothers Big Sisters and various other outreach missions for Taylor County.
Lewis has been a longtime advocate in Congress for the needs of rural communities, sponsoring legislation to strengthen rural economies and enhance social services.
“Programs such as USDA Rural Development are working to restore prosperity and hope to those who make their homes rural communities.”
