WASHINGTON, D.C –July 19, 2007 – The United States House of Representatives approved a measure to designate $175,000 for the Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club in Owensboro, U.S. Representative Ron Lewis announced Wednesday. Funds were included as part of the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2008 (H.R. 3043).
“The Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club is an important resource for thousands of young men and women in Owensboro,” said Lewis. “These funds will allow the organization to continue its mission to nurture individual talents and abilities, helping young people grow and succeed.”
The Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club serves over 3,000 youth in the Owensboro region by providing a safe learning environment, character development, positive role models, and healthy physical activities. Federal assistance will allow the organization to purchase playground equipment, tables and chairs and construct outdoor restroom facilities and a new walking trail.
“This potential funding gives our club’s kids greater opportunities to enhance technical skills, creates avenues for athletic and fitness programs, and positions the club for better community involvement,” said Executive Director Steve Winkler.
Wednesday’s action by the House is first step in the appropriations process. The Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Actwill be considered in the U.S. Senate and by a joint Conference Committee before being sent to the President to be signed into law later this year.
