WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ron Lewis (KY-02) recently introduced H. Res. 899, a resolution congratulating the Commonwealth of Kentucky on being selected to host the 2010 FEI Games. The two week event, the most prestigious competition in the equestrian world, will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington in September 2010.

“The horse industry represents the largest segment of Kentucky's agricultural sector, providing nearly 52,000 jobs and a vital source of tourism and recreation,” said Lewis. “Our selection to host this event will provide a unique opportunity to present the very best of our state to a global audience.”

The 14-day event will feature show jumping, dressage, driving, endurance, vaulting, reining, and para-equestrian events. As many as 800 competitors representing 50 countries are expected to attend the 2010. More than 1,000 national and international media outlets are also expected to attend, broadcasting the FEI Games to 180 countries.

The FEI Games are held once every 4 years. The 2010 event will be the first time the FEI Games occur outside of Europe. The games may have a potential economic impact of $100 million for Kentucky.

“Our state is honored by this announcement and excited about the opportunities it will present,” said Lewis. “There isn’t another venue in the world with the facilities and rich equestrian heritage to match what we have right here in Kentucky. I am proud to offer this resolution congratulating the Commonwealth, on behalf of the United States Congress, for this accomplishment.”
