WASHINGTON, D.C –July 24, 2007The United States House of Representatives approved a measure to designate $100,000 for the Lincoln Museum in Hodgenville, U.S. Representative Ron Lewis announced Tuesday. Funds were included as part of the Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development, and Independent Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2008 (H.R. 3074).

“Abraham Lincoln's birth and early childhood is a source of great pride and historical relevance in LaRue County and the entire Commonwealth of Kentucky,” said Lewis. “These funds will assist the Museum in preparation for the thousands of visitors expected to visit during the Bicentennial celebration.”

Designated funds will be used to expand and renovate the museum in anticipation of a vast influx of visitors, including President Bush, during the 2008-2009 celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday.

"I'm very appreciative of Congressman Ron Lewis and his efforts to enhance the Lincoln Bicentennial,” said LaRue County Judge Executive Tommy Turner. “Improving the Lincoln Museum will compliment our Lincoln Heritage now and for future generations."

Tuesday’s action by the House is first step in the appropriations process. The Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development, and Independent Agencies Appropriations Act will be considered in the U.S. Senate and by a joint Conference Committee before being sent to the President to be signed into law later this year.
