WASHINGTON, DC –October 8, 2007 – Terry and Phyllis Stinson of Owensboro traveled to Washington, D.C. Thursday October 4th to attend ceremonies celebrating their special commitment to foster care and adoption services in Kentucky. Phyllis Stinson was selected as an award recipient at the 2007 Congressional Angels in Adoption gala sponsored by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI).
Each year, Members of Congress are given the opportunity to select individuals, families or organizations from their home state who have demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of children in need of permanent and loving homes. Mrs. Stinson was nominated for the award by U.S. Rep. Ron Lewis (KY-02).
Lewis, the father of an adopted son and longtime advocate for foster care and adoption services, visited with the Stinson’s and their foster daughter Brittany in his Washington office prior to the ceremony. (Picture attached)
“I am always proud to recognize the achievements of people from Kentucky’s Second Congressional District,” said Lewis. “It is my honor to welcome Terry, Phyllis and Brittany to Washington for this special event.”
Phyllis Stinson currently serves as Treatment Director at Ed Necco and Associates, Inc., a foster care placement agency serving Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia. Terry and Phyllis recently welcomed Brittany into their home and have initiated the process to become her adoptive parents.
The ninth annual Angels in Adoption gala took place at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.
