Rep. Lewis, First Lady Laura Bush Congratulate Bowling Green for Receiving Federal Grant
Mayor Walker accepts $62,000 Preserve America Grant during Washington visit

WASHINGTON, DC -July 12, 2007 – Mayor Elaine Walker traveled to Washington, D.C. Thursday July 12th to attend ceremonies celebrating Bowling Green’s selection as recipient of the 2007 Preserve America Grant for Kentucky’s Second Congressional District. The event, sponsored by Preserve America and the Congressional Historic Preservation Caucus, was attended by Mrs. Laura Bush, First Lady of the United States and Honorary Chair of Preserve America.
 
Mayor Walker was joined on stage by U.S. Representative Ron Lewis.
“I am always proud to celebrate the achievements of communities in the Second Congressional District,” said Lewis. “This award will allow Bowling Green to showcase its rich and diverse history for many years to come.”
The city of Bowling Green will use grant funds to design and fabricate interpretive signs, trailheads, and other interpretive materials as part of a heritage tourism marketing campaign to promote their historic resources and enhance visitor experience.
Preserve America is an interagency initiative that encourages and supports community efforts to preserve and enjoy the country’s priceless cultural and natural heritage. The goals of the initiative include a greater shared knowledge about the nation’s past, strengthened regional identities and local pride, increased local participation in preserving the country’s cultural and natural heritage assets, and support for the economic vitality of communities.
