Congressman Jefferson Hires New Chief of Staff

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative William Jefferson announced that he has hired business development expert Eugene Green (no relation to Jefferson’s wife, Andrea Green Jefferson) to head his Washington, DC, New Orleans and Gretna offices.  Green comes to the Jefferson office with over 20 years of experience in business development and Jefferson expects he will serve as a great resource as the Congressman works to expand small business opportunities in the 2nd Congressional District.  With Jefferson’s recent appointment to the House Committee on Small Business, he said Green’s experience made him a perfect choice.

“Now is the right time to bring in an expert in small business issues to help guide our work on the Small Business Committee,” Jefferson said.  “Eugene’s experience in business development  is exactly what we need as we look to help our local small businesses rebuild our city.  As the former head of the City of New Orleans’ Economic Development team, Eugene has intimate knowledge of how to develop our small business infrastructure and he can be an even greater asset to our district as the Chief of Staff in my office.”

Green is a lifelong resident of New Orleans; a graduate of St. Augustine High School, Harvard University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, and Tulane University, where he received his Master’s in Business Administration.  He has served as president of the New Orleans Regional Business Park in New Orleans East for the last six years and prior to that served as Executive Assistant to former Mayor Marc Morial in the Mayor’s Division of Economic Development.  Green has also served as President of Nationwide Real Estate Corporation for the last 20 years.

“I am excited about the opportunity to work with Congressman Jefferson as strives to help this region's small business community rebuild,” Green said.  “The Congressman’s appointment to the Small Business Committee is an opportunity for his district to see real improvement in our recovery efforts and I look forward to continuing my service to my hometown and this region as the Congressman’s Chief of Staff.”

Green will start in the office on Monday, January 29th.  He will work in both the New Orleans and Washington offices.
