Congressman William Jefferson Announces $23 Million

FEMA Grant for Healthcare in New Orleans

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative William Jefferson, D-LA, announced a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant for the LSU Healthcare Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans. The grant of over $23 million will help the LSU Healthcare Medical Center replace medical and maintenance equipment that was destroyed by flooding caused by Hurricane Katrina. A total of eleven LSU medical buildings and their contents sustained extensive damage. This funding will go toward the restoration of services in all of those buildings.

“This grant is critical to the restoration of the healthcare system in New Orleans,” Jefferson said. “Although long overdue, the money obligated by FEMA will help us as we rebuild and ensure that the citizens of New Orleans have access to top-quality medical care.”
