Washington, DC – Today, along with over 200 representatives, Rep. Jefferson voted again to override the ill-advised veto of the SCHIP Reauthorization Act. H.R. 3963 continues to fund the 6.6 million children currently covered, provides coverage to 3.8 million children and in case of an economic slowdown would enable and additional 26 thousand Louisiana children to gain coverage.
“The SCHIP Reauthorization should be a clear cut need of every district and state in our Nation,” said Jefferson. “It is a tragedy that we have continued to let politics get in the way of ensuring the health of so many of our American children. It was my hope that this vote would have put an end to the posturing and solidified the future for this program, but all I and my colleagues can do is continue to fight until proper healthcare is available for every child.”
