Washington, DC – Congressman Jefferson, along with his other House colleagues voted today to bring aid to the average American citizen struggling during the current downturn of the economy.
“Congress stepped up today, in bipartisan fashion, to help our citizens,” said Jefferson. “This economic stimulus bill will bring hope to over 100 million Americans, including over 1.5 million Louisianans. I am pleased that Congress showed it can work together on the most pressing issues facing our Nation. Though, while pleased, I am still determined to work with our Congressional leaders to ensure that nothing in the economic stimulus, in the form of incentives, hinders the progress we have made in our recovery by offering similar GO-ZONE incentives to the entire nation.”
The bill passed today provides a recovery rebate to 117 million families, including 35 million families who work but make too little to pay income taxes and 13 million senior citizens. The broad-based stimulus package will provide tax relief of up to $600 per individual and $1,200 per married couple, plus an additional $300 per child. All told, the bill is estimated to provide an average tax rebate of $938 to Louisiana families.
