Congressman Jefferson to help deliver Katrina Letters to New Orleans School Students written by Children in Basrah

New Orleans, LA – Congressman William J. Jefferson (D-La.) will help deliver letters written by Iraqi children to New Orleans public school students whose lives have been affected by Hurricane Katrina.  33 Iraqi children of middle school age wrote the “Thinking of You” notes.   Some of the notes even include small cash donations for the young hurricane victims.

Through the efforts of the NGO “Generation Iraq”, the Iraqi children- who live in Basrah- were shown pictures and read articles about Hurricane Katrina.  The Iraqi children were then eager to help the children of New Orleans.

Congressman Jefferson said, “It’s an amazing thing for these children in Basrah- after all their country has been through- to reach out to American children who survived Katrina.  These Iraqi children, and many New Orleans kids who used to live in currently devastated areas, have had their lives significantly altered by powers beyond their control.  They know what’s important, though.  They’re there to give their support and their prayers.”
