These funds are being sought by the Forsyth Institute to expand their successful oral health program to include additional communities in the 10th Congressional District.  This program targets elementary schools in federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas and is currently serving 22 schools in 10th Congressional District.   A rigorous program evaluation demonstrates that the program has achieved outstanding results.  One round of prevention reduces new cavities by 50%, and four rounds of prevention virtually eliminate new cavities entirely.  Federal reimbursements and funds for dental care have been cut significantly over the years. This has led to a significant unfulfilled demand for dental care services among children, especially in the Tenth District which is need of additional federal funding.
