The Martha’s Vineyard Community Wind Resource Mapping Project will provide a comprehensive wind energy resource assessment to determine the options to site wind energy development on the island.
The goal is to create a planning tool that not only identifies the various sites, but the various competing uses, so that residents of island can make informed choices about wind power applications. They propose a planning model that will help the island to understand wind development in a regional context with respect to a series of clearly identified energy production goals, different strategies to achieve them, and the costs and benefits associated with each.
The taxpayers will benefit by showing how a small island community, with significant environmental resources and other land use conflicts, can create a consensus on wind energy power development.
