CONGRESSMAN SARBANES SUPPORTS FUNDING IMPROVEMENTS AT MARC ODENTON AND EDGEWOOD STATIONS

February 15, 2008

Washington, DC -- MARC’s Odenton and Edgewood stations will be receiving a combined total of $744,320.00 from the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration to make various improvements. The Odenton station will use the funds to build a 2,500 – 3,500 space parking garage. MARC’s Edgewood Station will use the funds to build a station building and attendant Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access improvements.

“I have strongly supported increased funding for MARC improvements,” said Congressman Sarbanes. “As a daily commuter from Baltimore to DC, I know firsthand the concerns that travelers face. With these new funds, MARC patrons will have better access to trains and an improved parking facility.”

Both stations are located on the Penn line and will service the expected influx of riders resulting from Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) jobs. It is anticipated that an increase in ridership will occur at both stations.
