Sarbanes Congratulates Maryland Zoo on 2007 Season

March 12, 2007

Towson, MD --

"I’m thrilled to congratulate the Maryland Zoo on the occasion of its 2007 opening season celebration. My family and I had the honor of joining Zoo leadership, staff and attendees at the Zoo’s opening season celebration recently.

The Maryland Zoo offers our community tremendous educational opportunities as part of the movement towards environmental conservation and protection. My connection to nature began when as a young boy I spent many summer days with my grandmother on the Eastern Shore. It was there that I came to appreciate our intrinsic connection to the natural world. My wife and I have cultivated that interest in our children and now our son Nico is an avid birder and budding naturalist. Every time my family visits the Zoo, we make a special point of visiting the Children’s Zoo.

A trip to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore is a rewarding and entertaining experience for people of all ages, but particularly for young people. Using the Zoo as an extension of the classroom enhances a student’s study of biology and environmental science. Exploring the different exhibits and participating in the interactive elements of the facility provide many opportunities to introduce different species of wildlife to the Zoo’s visitors.

I encourage you to visit the Maryland Zoo this season and imagine that you’ll enjoy it as much as I do."
