SARBANES VOTES TO SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES

House passes four critical bills

June 21, 2007

Washington, DC -- Congressman John Sarbanes (D-03) joined his House colleagues in passing four bills critical to Maryland’s small businesses this week.

·        H.R.2359 – SBA Entrepreneurial Development Programs Act of 2007 (Rep. Sestak – Small Business)

·        H.R.2366 - SBA Veterans' Programs Act of 2007 (Rep. Buchanan – Small Business)

·        H.R.2284 – To amend the Small Business Act to expand and improve the assistance provided by Small Business Development Centers to Indian tribe members, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians (Rep. Udall (NM) – Small Business)

·        H.R.2397 - SBA Women's Business Programs Act of 2007 (Rep. Fallin – Small Business)

“The new majority has taken small business development very seriously,” said Congressman Sarbanes. “Already, we have seen major tax breaks and policy initiatives aimed at easing the burden on small business owners in America. By expanding resources and reinforcing existing support structures, the federal government can play a major role in expanding opportunities for women, veterans and other minorities who are working so hard to make our economy grow.”
