Stupak: It is Time for an Iraqi Accountability Plan

Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Michigan) offered the following comments today regarding the third anniversary of the invasion of Iraq:

“As we mark the 3 year anniversary of the Iraq war, we pay honor to the men and women who serve in our armed forces.  We remember the more than 2,300 soldiers who have died and thousands more who were injured.

The new Iraqi government has been elected and the new government has convened.  The Iraqi soldiers have been trained by U.S. forces and have had ample time to learn military tactics.  It is now time for the President to develop a plan to bring our troops home.  I believe America should demand from the Bush Administration an Iraqi Accountability Plan that will set clear and measurable goals to entrust the country of Iraq to her people.  The United States has provided the Iraqis with an opportunity to achieve freedom, democracy and self-governance for their nation, but only the Iraqi people can put these principles into action.”
