(Liberty) U.S. Congressman Sam Graves is seeking submissions for “An Artistic Discovery”, the annual Congressional High School Art Competition.
The competition is a yearly event held in each of the 435 Congressional Districts, including the Sixth District of Missouri. It highlights the importance of art education by recognizing outstanding talented young artists in each district. The winning entries are exhibited for a year in the United States Capitol Building.
Any student at a public or private high school in the Sixth Congressional District, including alternative, homeschooled or vocational students, is eligible to submit a work of art by May 1st. Artwork must be two-dimensional (no sculptures) and can be in any medium, including painting, drawing, collage, print, mixed media, computer generated or photography, no larger than 30” by 30” to the outside dimensions of the frame and it must be ready to hang.
A panel of judges will select the winning artwork and the winner will be notified by Graves. The student’s winning piece will represent the Sixth Congressional District in the nationwide exhibit at the United States Capitol. The winner will receive 3 roundtrip tickets to Washington D.C for the awards ceremony on June 24th. In addition, the winner will receive an art school scholarship.
