Graves Responds to Budget Address

(Washington, D.C.) U.S. Congressman Sam Graves, the Ranking Member of the Small Business Committee, issued the following statement regarding the President’s Budget Address to Congress.

"We need to stop talking about fiscal responsibility in Washington and start practicing it," said Graves. "The best way to cut the deficit in half is to stop spending money that we do not have and to take a serious look at cutting wasteful spending."

"The worst thing we can do during a recession is to take dollars out of the hands of the small business owners who create jobs for Americans," said Graves.  "This administration is trying to balance their massive spending increases on the back of Main Street.  Every dollar the government takes is a dollar that cannot be used to make that months payroll or reinvested to create new jobs."

According to the IRS, sixty-four percent of households filing individual tax forms with a gross income above $250,000 filed as sole proprietors or small businesses.
