Sixth District Congressman Sam Graves will vote “no” on the upcoming Health Care Bill. Graves’ office said that they believe the vote will come down sometime this weekend, and mostly likely on Saturday evening.
Graves told reporters in a conference call Friday that he believes it’s a close vote and that the vote may come as late as Sunday, as both sides try to gain votes.
“I think it’s going to be a real close vote. I think it’s really telling that the President is coming up here to the Hill to lobby votes himself. We’ve probably done four suspensions on the floor already today, and they’ve called roll call votes on all four of them, which basically just means they are going to whip votes during those roll call votes. That’s very telling.”
Graves speculated that they don’t have all of the votes right now to pass the bill, and noted that he knew of several Democrats who were on the fence, and were seeing a lot of pressure to vote “yes” on the bill.
“The Speaker is trying to ram this bill down America’s throat,” Graves said. “I’m going to do everything I can to stop her. She’s said from the start that she’s going to do this no matter what. I think that’s absolutely the wrong approach, particularly with the economy the way it is.”
Graves referenced his town hall forums in Missouri in August, where he saw overwhelming opposition from the 6th District.
