(Washington, D.C) U.S. Congressman Sam Graves announced that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded a $14,250 grant to the Cowgill Town and Country Volunteer Fire Department. The funds will be used for operations and safety.
"It is essential that rural areas continue to have the equipment and training they need to respond to emergencies," said Graves, who served as a volunteer fire fighter. "I am proud to support this funding for the volunteers of Cowgill who are serving their community."
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant program awards one-year grants directly to local fire departments and emergency responders, enhancing their abilities to respond to fire and fire-related hazards in their communities. For fiscal year 2007, $490 million in firefighter grants are to be distributed by the Department of Homeland Security.
