(Washington D.C.) Kansas City native Liz Lathrop experienced first hand how political affairs were handled on Capitol Hill as an intern in Congressman Sam Graves’ Washington, D.C. office. Lathrop graduated from the University of Kansas in May of 2007 where she studied English and Political Science. Upon graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C. to begin an internship with her local congressman, Sam Graves.
As a legislative intern, she worked closely with fellow Missourians by leading Capitol tours, researching legislative issues and attending committee meetings. Her strong desire to have a career in public service is what sparked her interest in working on Capitol Hill.
“Working on Capitol Hill has been an amazing experience,” said Lathrop. “It was a pleasure to work alongside both Congressman Graves and his staff in order to assist my fellow Missourian’s needs.”
Lathrop finished her internship this week after accepting a staff assistant position with Congressman John Sullivan from Oklahoma. Liz is the daughter of John and Polly Lathrop of Kansas City and the granddaughter of Dorothy Werner and Shirley Lathrop of Gladstone, Missouri.
