(Washington, D.C) U.S. Congressman Sam Graves voted to override President George Bush’s veto this week on H.R. 3043, the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations Bill. The project included $350,000 in teacher training funds requested by Graves for Central Methodist University in Fayette. The training program would include science, technology, engineering, and math teacher courses.
“This is a great project that will help train the next generation of mathematicians and scientists,” said Graves. “We need to start preparing for tomorrow’s challenges today and the first step is to have well-prepared teachers who can pass on knowledge.”
Graves voted for the bill on final passage last week, but it was vetoed by the President. The bill did not have the two-thirds support of the House needed to override the veto.
“I’m hopeful that we can work out our differences and get a bi-partisan piece of legislation passed sooner rather than later,” said Graves. “I’ll continue to work to get this important project included in this year’s budget.”
Graves is a four-term member of the House who represents 26 counties in Missouri, including Howard and Cooper counties.
