(Liberty, MO) It was like old times for U.S. Congressman Sam Graves on Tuesday. Graves returned to the Missouri House Floor in Jefferson City to accept the “Outstanding Missourian Award” from the Missouri House of Representatives. Graves served in the House from 1993 to 1995.
“It’s an honor to serve Missourians and represent them to Washington D.C.,” said Graves. “I am humbled by this honor and grateful to the Missouri House for its kindness.”
Graves was nominated for the award by Fourth District State Representative Mike Thompson from Maryville. The award cites Graves’ accomplishments as an advocate for the Sixth Congressional District.
“Sam Graves…has developed and maintained an excellent reputation for his leadership in bringing the Heart of America Regional Crime and Forensics Lab to Kansas City, spearheading a successful effort to get a DEA agent stationed in St. Joseph, passing an amendment to No Child Left Behind that clarifies government funding responsibilities, championing the cause of renewable and alternative energy, working to increase funding for Missouri roads, supporting tax relief and preventing predatory lenders from targeting members of the military,” the resolution reads.
Started in 2003, the Outstanding Missourian Award recognizes residents who benefit their community through civic service or outstanding accomplishments. Candidates are nominated by their state representative and approved by the speaker of the house.
