(Washington D.C.) U.S. Congressman Sam Graves announced that he has secured $200,000 in federal funding for Smithville. The funding will be used for a nine siren emergency warning system. Sirens will be placed strategically placed to warn all Smithville residents in the event of severe weather, or other emergencies.
“In Missouri, we are no stranger to severe weather,” said Graves. “This funding will give a head start to Smithville residents when severe weather threatens.”
The funding was included in the Omnibus Appropriations bill that passed the House late Monday night. It is expected to pass the Senate and be sent to the President this week.
“I’m glad that Sam Graves is working for Smithville,” said Todd Justice, a Smithville Alderman. “This is an important project for our community that will be used by everyone.”
Graves is a four-term Congressman representing all of Clay County.
