Emerson Announces Academy Nominations  – June 08, 2010
WASHINGTON   –  U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) today announced the nomination of eight students from the Eighth District to America’s uniformed service academies.  Those students nominated will now enter the appointment consideration phase of the selection process before being notified of the admissions decision for the coming fall class.

“We have an outstanding group of nominees to the nation’s service academies this year.  These young men and women are inspired to lead a life of service to our country, and I am very impressed with all they have accomplished to date.  We all expect even more excellence from them in the future,” Emerson said.

Emerson and the Academy Advisory Board, chaired by Mr. Michael Greene of Van Buren, selected six principal and two alternate nominees to three service academies this year.

U.S. Military Academy – West Point, New York
Principal: Mitchel Hazelwood (Altenburg)
Principal: Christian Carron (Perryville)

U.S. Naval Academy – Annapolis, Maryland
Principal: Timothy Kimbrow (Poplar Bluff)
Principal: John Jackson (Piedmont)

U.S. Air Force Academy – Colorado Springs, Colorado
Principal: Samuel Gramling (Cape Girardeau)
Principal: Dallas Wylie (Hartville)
Alternate: Denny Merideth (Caruthersville)
Alternate: Joshua Maggard (Salem)

Nominations to the U.S. service academies are based upon academic criteria and an evaluation of overall qualifications by the Eighth District Academy Advisory Board.  The Board is comprised of individuals from throughout Southern Missouri with expertise in business, education and military issues.
