Washington D.C. - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) today asked the veterans of Missouri’s Eighth Congressional District to participate in a Library of Congress initiative to gather personal stories of those who served America.
As Veterans Day approaches, the Veterans History Project is calling for submissions of all kinds of Americans veterans memorabilia.
“Memoirs, photographs, letters, and oral interviews are the historical record by which we remember times of war. Grandchildren should interview their grandparents, students should interview members of their communities, and veterans should interview each other. This is a marvelous opportunity to preserve the collective memories Missourians have of their service to our nation,” Emerson said.
The Veterans History Project is coordinated through the American Folklife Center of the U.S. Library of Congress. The personal stories collected through the Veterans History project will become part of the permanent historical record of the nation.
“Our veterans are a great resource for young generations. They can inspire us to patriotic service, and their experiences can teach us so much about courage and selflessness. I would encourage all of our veterans to contribute to this project,” Emerson said.
