Emerson, Bond, Talent Announce Grant

Washington  -  U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) and Missouri Senators Christopher “Kit” Bond and Jim Talent today announced a grant to the University of Missouri-Rolla.  The $52,421 grant will fund new soybean research at the university.
The project will study how bacteria communicate in a microbe that infects the soybean plant.

“The University of Missouri-Rolla has a proven track record on agricultural research.  This project is of great scientific interest throughout Missouri and across the country.  Agriculture is a fundamental component of our rural economies, and our research institutions play a vital role in our success in Southern Missouri,” Emerson said.

“The University of Missouri-Rolla is known here at home and across the nation for their scientific talent.  With these new dollars Rolla’s outstanding researchers will continue Missouri’s efforts to strengthen the rural economy and be a leader in the mission to feed the world,” Bond said.

“I’m very pleased to help announce this funding for University of Missouri-Rolla,” said Talent, Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Subcommittee on Marketing, Inspection and Product Promotion.  “Agriculture is a driving force of Missouri’s economy and these dollars will go a long way toward backing innovative research in biological science.  I commend the university for its continued efforts on behalf of agriculture research and development.”
