WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) today added her support to the Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 276-139.
“It is ludicrous to sue someone who has no responsibility for irresponsible behavior in food consumption. But we live in a legal climate where the idea is to sue first and ask questions later. You may as well sue the makers of an automobile for their hand in causing a traffic jam,” Emerson said.
“We must teach our children the importance of good nutrition, and we must take steps to reduce the prevalence of obesity. But these lessons should be learned at home, in school, and through common sense.”
Emerson is a cosponsor of the legislation, H.R. 552. |
