WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) today announced a discretionary grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation of $2,899,458 for improvements to U.S. 67. These funds will be utilized for projects on the critical transportation corridor in Southern Missouri.
“This is an extremely important stretch of transportation infrastructure for us in Southern Missouri. I’m very pleased the Department of Transportation is releasing additional funds to help improve this section of highly-traveled roadway,” Emerson said.
“These funds are an investment in our safety, our economy, and jobs in our region. These dollars will create vital improvements to transportation in Southern Missouri,” Emerson added. “Safety and efficiency along U.S. 67 have long been serious issues for travelers and truckers alike. Now, hopefully, we can put some of those fears to rest.
“It is also important to note the economic impact of the construction itself. In addition to improving the infrastructure we rely upon to get our Southern Missouri products to market, this project is putting people to work. I am grateful to my colleagues in the Senate for their support of the U.S. 67 project. This is another way we are standing up for rural Missouri in Congress.”
Emerson advocated for the funding, a federal discretionary grant for FY 2004, from her position on the House Appropriations Committee. The $2.9 million amount is 7/12 amount of the amount requested. The remainder will be subject to consideration later in the year. |
