WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) today announced she will hold four Economic Roundtables in Missouri’s Eighth Congressional District next week. The meetings will include local officials, economic development specialists, and business leaders from across Southern Missouri.
“The Economic Roundtables represent an opportunity to share ideas and information about what is working to improve our rural economy. Job creation and job retention are our leading goals, and sharing our best strategies can help us achieve them,” Emerson said. “We can take these proven methods from different parts of our district and hopefully replicate their successes across the region.”
Emerson will host four meetings between May 25th and May 28th in Rolla, Portageville, Poplar Bluff, and Mountain Grove, MO. The roundtable sessions will focus on the unique challenges of building and maintaining a productive economic environment in Southern Missouri. Two additional conferences are tentatively planned for June in Cape Girardeau and Farmington, MO.
“Attracting and keeping jobs nearby is a real challenge in rural America. Unfortunately, it takes longer for economic recovery to reach us, and we have to work hard to compete with businesses in urban areas and around the world,” Emerson said. “Ultimately, industries and jobs need our best ideas to stay in Southern Missouri. We will make every effort to bring home the full benefits of economic recovery.”
