WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) tomorrow will make remarks to the veterans of the American Legion to mark Memorial Day, the 60th Anniversary of D-Day, and the dedication of the WWII War memorial in Washington DC. The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. CDT at the American Legion on South Kingshighway in Sikeston.
“We are fortunate to have the resource of our veterans in Sikeston,” Emerson said. “They are living history, and the stories of their service to our nation so long ago is truly inspiring. They are also still serving in our community in many ways by volunteering, helping out charitable causes, and developing the Sikeston Veterans Park. I look forward to spending time with them Saturday and letting them know how important they are to our community and our heritage.”
Next week, Emerson will depart for Europe, where she will attend D-Day anniversary ceremonies at Utah Beach in France, meet with the U.S. commanding general for Europe, and then visit wounded U.S. troops at the Landstuhl Army Medical Center in Germany.
“There are many brave men and women carrying on the tradition of service they learned from their parents and grandparents who served in uniform. Military service is a proud part of our history of patriotism in Southern Missouri. I welcome the opportunity to thank Sikeston’s veterans for doing their part as we honor those who are no longer with us on Memorial Day.” |
