WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) and Senators Kit Bond and Jim Talent today announced a $86,306 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development to the Washington County Industrial Development Authority. The Rural business Enterprise Grant will be used to help extend a road through the industrial park in Potosi to connect Highway “O” and Highway 8.
“Transportation infrastructure is a great concern for rural Southern Missouri. Investments in our roads improve our business climate and create jobs in our communities,” Emerson said. “This project is a worthwhile investment in the quality of life in Washington County and the economic future of the region. Rural Development has identified a real need, and invested the funds to bring an estimated 12 new jobs to the industrial park by attracting a new small business, Enhancements, Inc. At my recent slate of economic round tables, I saw Rural Business Enterprise Grants as a great way to spark growth in rural economies. I am glad to see these funds utilized.”
"When we invest in Missouri's transportation system we are investing in our economy," said Senator Kit Bond. "Our rural communities depend on safe and efficient transportation infrastructure to keep them connected to urban Missouri. Today's announcement is a real boost to the folks in Washington County."
“Funding transportation infrastructure is a top priority for communities in Missouri,” said Sen. Talent. “I’ve been working with Sen. Bond and Congresswoman Emerson to increase the size of the highway bill so we can improve the roads and bridges in Missouri. This funding is an investment in Washington County that will help create jobs, bolster the local economy and save lives.” |
