WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) will hold two Economic Roundtables in Missouri’s Eighth Congressional District tomorrow. The meetings will include local officials, economic development specialists, and business leaders from across Southern Missouri.
“The Economic Roundtables represent an opportunity to share ideas and information about what is working to improve our rural economy. Job creation and job retention are our leading goals, and sharing our best strategies can help us achieve them,” Emerson said. “We can take these proven methods from different parts of our district and replicate their successes across the region. I want to encourage everyone who has a stake in our rural economy to get on the same page.”
Emerson will host a 9:00 a.m. CDT meeting at the Show-Me Center in Cape Girardeau, followed by a 3:00 p.m. CDT session at the Holiday Inn Express in Farmington The roundtables will focus on the unique challenges of building and maintaining a productive economic environment in Southern Missouri. Emerson held four previous Economic Roundtables in Rolla, Mountain Grove, Portageville, and Poplar Bluff in May.
“Attracting and keeping jobs nearby is a real challenge in rural America. We have to work hard to compete with businesses in urban areas and around the world,” Emerson said. “We have a lot to offer: great communities, a motivated workforce, and the opportunity for many public-private partnerships. Ultimately, however, industries and companies need our best ideas to stay in Southern Missouri.”
