WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) will speak next week at a prayer service for the 1140th National Guard Unit currently serving in Iraq. The service is scheduled for Monday at 7:00 p.m. CDT at Mt. Auburn Christian Church in Cape Girardeau.
“Our men and women serving in Iraq are making a great sacrifice on behalf of our nation. We are proud of them, yet the separation is difficult for all of us. Part of coming together as a community in support of our soldiers, their families, and their loved ones, is to pray together,” Emerson said. “Prayer is part of who we are, and our relationship with God is an essential part of our relationship with one another.”
In Congress, Emerson is president of the House of Representatives Prayer Breakfast, which meets every Thursday morning when Congress is in session.
“The prayer service for the 1140th is a wonderful opportunity to show the families of our deployed soldiers that we are devoted to the war they are fighting on the home front. Faith and patriotism are basic values we share here in Southern Missouri. I want to be sure our military families know that they have our support in every way,” Emerson said.
Emerson, who has a step-daughter serving in Iraq at the present time, will make remarks at the service.
