WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) and Missouri Senators Kit Bond and Jim Talent today announced the release of federal funds for
improvements to US 67 in Southern Missouri. Emerson, Bond, and Talent fought to include the $1,802,634.67 of funding in congressional transportation appropriations for Fiscal Year 2004.
“Transportation infrastructure is one of the most pressing needs of the Eighth Congressional District,” Emerson said. “We export our agricultural products and manufactured goods all over the world, and our highways are a crucial link in that system. This funding is vital to the economic growth and competitiveness of our region. I’m proud that the money will help complete an important project and create jobs for Southern Missouri at the same time. For the livelihoods and safety of all of us in this part of the state, we must keep our roads in the best shape possible.”
“By investing in our nation's roads and bridges we are investing in our economy. Most importantly, increased investment in our highway system saves lives,” said Senator Kit Bond. “The funds announced today are great news not only for the communities in Southern Missouri, but also for anyone who travels across this part of our great state.”
“Highway 67 is a priority of mine in the Senate,” said Sen. Talent. “Improving our transportation infrastructure in Southeast Missouri will make our roads and bridges safer while creating jobs and economic growth. I know how important this funding is for those who routinely travel Highway 67 and I’ve been pleased to work together with Sen. Bond and Rep. Emerson to bring this funding back to Missouri.” |
