WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) today announced the winners of the 2005 Congressional Art Contest from Missouri’s Eighth Congressional District. The winning piece will be part of the national exhibition in the U.S. Capitol until May of 2006.
“Having their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol is a high honor for the extremely gifted artists who have been selected over the years,” Emerson said.
This year’s contest featured 202 entries from 13 different high schools. Louise Bodenhimer of Southeast Missouri University served as the competition judge.
“I wish to express my appreciation to Southeast Missouri State University and the Missouri State Teachers Association for their assistance in putting together this wonderful program on the district level,” Emerson said.
Best of Show honors will be awarded to Chad Stone of Kennett High School at an 10:30 a.m. CST Friday ceremony at the University Center at SEMO. His art teacher is Susan Baker. Ten other students will receive honorable mention awards.
“We had tremendous participation this year, and many talented students submitted their art. I’m glad the contest got this kind of reception from the young artists in our district,” Emerson said. “I would like to congratulate all of the participants, and especially our winners.”
