WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) will attend the annual meeting of the Missouri Cotton Producers in Kennett, MO, on Saturday. The meeting will take place at the American Legion in Kennett, with registration beginning at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30.
“Our cotton producers are a vital part of the agriculture economy in Southeast Missouri,” Emerson said. “I am glad to be able to spend some time interacting with this group of the northern-most cotton producers in the U.S.”
Emerson will briefly discuss the FY 2006 federal budget and how it pertains to agricultural programs. She has led an effort in Congress to maintain the structure of the 2002 Farm Bill and stop cuts in programs and payments for American farmers.
“The Missouri farmer can compete in the global marketplace because of the support given by government programs. For cotton producers, payments and marketing programs keep farms in families and offer the stability necessary for making long-term business decisions. I am committed to making sure the government honors its obligation to all of our nation’s producers,” Emerson said. |
