WASHINGTON  -  U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) will hold a roundtable in
Pomona TOMORROW to discuss the production, sale, and use of methamphetamine in Southern Missouri.  The roundtable meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m. CST.

 

“Methamphetamine abuse is a serious problem throughout the Heartland, and it demands our attention,” Emerson said.  “The futures of our children and our communities are at stake.  I have worked to establish tougher penalties for those who produce and sell methamphetamine, but it is going to take a real community effort with assistance and awareness at every level of government to win the war on this drug.  The fact that this event has drawn such wide support and participation is a good indicator of the commitment to solving this problem.”
   
County sheriffs, highway patrol officers, chiefs of police, federal drug task force agents from the Drug Enforcement Agency and local drug task forces, and county and federal prosecutors have been invited to attend the event.

 

Emerson is the cosponsor of legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives to classify ephedrine and other ingredients of methamphetamine as controlled substances.  She has also fought to obtain federal funds for Southern Missouri’s several drug task forces over the years.
