WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (MO-08) today announced her support for the nomination of Judge John Roberts to the U.S. Supreme Court.
“It is my hope that the U.S. Senate will give swift and complete consideration to the president’s nomination. Judge Roberts is an accomplished member of the American legal community, and I think he is an astute selection for the Supreme Court,” Emerson said. “He has established great credentials, he shares our Midwestern values, and he has a reputation for objectivity. We need a nominee who will apply the Constitution, not reinterpret it.
“In the past several years, we have witnessed the erosion of many important legal protections in U.S. federal courts. On eminent domain, parental notification for a minor’s abortion, the public display of the Ten Commandments and the institution of marriage, our courts are becoming out of step with the principles established by our Founders. I hope the confirmation of Judge Roberts can reverse this disturbing trend.”
Judge John Roberts, a graduate of Harvard Law School, was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in 2003 by President George W. Bush.
